– Memorial of Saint Leo the Great –
“Jesus asked, “Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” [Luke 17:17-18]
“Well that was a bit of good luck.”
I have said this a few times, when in a time of need something will appear or things will just fall into place, providing me with the solution I needed. I am relieved at my good fortune and I do not tend to think about it much more than that. Is it really a case of being in the right place at the right time or am I dismissing the blessings that God has bestowed on me?
Today’s gospel sees ten lepers who were suffering and desperate for healing get exactly what they had been longing for. Jesus heals them all but it was only one who gave thanks for what He did for them.
Look again at what has been ‘good luck’ in your life, look beyond that $5 you found on the street and look at where you are today, the things in your life that bring you joy, purpose and security. Could it be that you are just lucky, or have you been blessed? If you ever wanted to see Jesus more clearly, look to these things and you will see him at work in your life.
Jesus, let us not be like the nine lepers who left but like the one who came back to sit at your feet and thank you. For all the blessings in our lives, thank you Lord. Amen.
