Are you ready for action? If God called on you right now, would you be prepared? In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us, ‘Blessed are those slaves whom the master finds alert when he comes.’ The message is clear: we are called to live in a state of readiness, being conscious of our inner and outer worlds.
But what does this readiness look like? It’s not about waiting for something to happen. Instead, it’s about staying spiritually alert, aware of when others need help or when God might be leading us to act. Are we paying attention to those moments; do we consciously try to be open and reflective as to what comes our way?
The parable also includes a striking image where the master serves the servants. This reversal challenges us to reflect on how God serves us through Jesus and how we are called to serve others with the same selflessness. Are we prepared to serve as Christ does and within that service, experience grace?
When Jesus says, ‘Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit,’ he is calling for more than just outward readiness. It’s about preparing our hearts and minds through prayer, reflection, and acts of service. Are we nurturing that inner readiness, awareness, attentiveness to the sacred, in our lives?
Ultimately, this passage challenges us to live with a sense of purpose, always prepared to encounter Christ in others and to serve as He would.
Let us pray that we are prepared to encounter Christ in others; being ready for such encounters and being open to living more consciously with our ‘lamps lit’.
