There are over 2.1 billion Christians in the world, spread across the continents. The Cross, is instantly recognisable across cultures, generations, races and languages and the name of Jesus Christ is known to most people alive today.
It’s hard to believe that this giant of a Church arose from such small beginnings, a few faithful people sent out to share the news of Jesus. In that time, the harvest was plentiful but the labourers were few, so how is it today with our billions of members that the Church still faces the same issue?
The seventy who were commissioned and sent out, knew Jesus personally. They went ahead and told others about him, what he can do for them, what they should expect from him and then, they returned to the one who sent them out. Today, whom do you consider yourself to be? Are you one of the seventy sent out or are you among those who are yet to meet Jesus? Do you know Jesus or do you just know of him?
While the Gospel has travelled across the world by those who have shared the message of Jesus, it will transform the world when every person comes to know Jesus. Like St Luke, may we play our part in making Jesus known and loved.
