Filled with the Holy Spirit

– Pentecost Sunday –

“All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit” [Acts 2:4)]

“Receive the Holy Spirit” [John 20:22]

All Christians receive the Holy Spirit when they are baptised. What impact does this gift continue to have in our lives? The Pentecost story we hear today describes a dynamism, power and transformation that changes fearful disciples into bold and audacious proclaimers.

How can we reclaim this same energy and drive in our own lives?

We need to open our hearts and minds to be filled with the Holy Spirit, letting go of our fears and believing that the same power that enlivened the disciples is available to us, here and now.

Let us pray:

Rushing Breath of Love, you came into the Upper Room long ago, calming the disciples’ fear and giving them courage, compassion and confidence.

Come into the Inner Rooms of our lives today, filling us with this same transforming love. Open what is closed in us, breathe renewed faith into our hearts and give us renewed energy and desire to be your agents of love and peace in our families and those we encounter. Amen.
