As we begin this journey of Advent, we are called to put on the Lord Jesus Christ, a time to wake the parts of ourselves that are asleep. In the letter to the Romans, Paul gives us the way to do this. In a world where things are often dark and there is much suffering –Jesus shows us the way.
This is the invitation at the heart of our baptism; to live a deeper way of being, that leads to becoming the hands and feet of Jesus Christ for the world. In fact, we are to be clothed in Christ (see Galatians 3:27). To live the mission of Jesus, we are to reach out to those looking for forgiveness, encouragement or hope.
Only by living in God’s presence can we rise above the chaos of the world and become like Jesus- a beacon of light in the darkness. As Paul reminds us today, we are to ‘put on the armour of light’.
So our challenge is to fully live out our baptism, to keep awake and to know that when we take a step towards Jesus, we discover that he with us.
How is Jesus inviting us to ‘be him’ in the world today?
