In our human experience, we often find ourselves in moments of trial. However big or small the challenge, we look for help and support. Most people will have a friend, family or someone they trust to turn to. Unfortunately for others, support can be challenging to access, leading to further isolation and loneliness. Jesus shows awareness of that reality, that suffering is likely to come the way of His disciples that might undermine their faith in Him. Our own faith can be shaken at times through the different experiences we face.
Yet, today we read of the promise that the Risen Jesus gives to His disciples, which He gives to all of us. He promised us that we would never be alone in facing our challenges. We have an Advocate, a Counselor.
The Holy Spirit confirms us in our faith. The Holy Spirit will be the strength through our weakness, the love between the Father and the Son actively living in us, always calling us back to who we are in the sight of the Lord (a beloved son and daughter). The Holy Spirit gives us the power to proclaim the Gospel of love to a broken and hurting world, bear witness to the truth, and remind us that the Father never forgets His children in moments of trials.
