Take Heart

– Monday, Week 7 of Easter –

“I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world, you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world.”
(John 16: 33)

Today, we witness a moment of clarity and faith in the hearts of Jesus’ disciples. They express their belief that Jesus is an agent of God and recognise His divine knowledge and authority. For the disciples, this is a huge step. However, Jesus responds by foretelling the challenges that lie ahead. He tells them that they will be scattered and He will be left alone. Yet, Jesus reassures them that He is not truly alone because the Father is with Him.

Jesus’ words remind us that the journey of faith is not always smooth. We will face difficulties, doubts, and moments of feeling scattered. But in the midst of it all, we can find solace in the presence of God. We can take courage knowing that He is always with us and will guide us through every challenge we face. It is important to remember that our faith is not immune to struggles; quite the opposite. It is through those struggles that our faith is strengthened and deepened.

This passage invites us to reflect on our own moments of clarity and understanding in our faith journey. There may be times when we feel confident in our beliefs and have a deep awareness of God’s presence in our lives. In our difficult moments, however, we need to find peace in Christ, knowing that He has already conquered the world.

+ Jesus, help me to know that You are always with me. Even in my struggles, allow me to find strength in You, for you have already overcome this world. Amen.
