The Archdiocesan Centre for Catholic Formation exists to engage the baptised in a deeper experience of God in the Catholic tradition. It provides four core modules as well as supplementary guest lectures, short courses, retreats, and one off events.

Catholic foundations MODULES

These core modules are designed to draw Catholics into the fullness of the Catholic life and provide formation for those considering ministry roles. The experience will engage both the head and the heart so participants grow in knowledge and the lived experience of Catholic faith.

Each module includes 10 sessions supported with individual reflection and a certificate awarded for completion.

the MODULES

Semester One, 2025

This module introduces some key principles of the Catholic faith as we seek to understand more deeply who God is and who we are called to be in response to God. It will cover themes including:

  • The person of Jesus Christ
  • Understanding our baptism
  • A Catholic response to Scripture
  • Our life in the Trinity
  • Living our faith today
  • The Eucharist
  • Prayer

Semester Two, 2025

This module engages participants in the scriptures, exploring their inspiration, canonisation, unity and how to interpret scripture within the Catholic tradition. This module will also provide participants with introductions to various books within the canon as well as theological principals that inform the Catholic reading of scripture. Beyond the mechanics, this module provides an experience of listening to the voice of God in scripture, ensuring that scripture moves beyond mere text to being experienced as God’s word to us.

Semester One, 2026

This module engages participants in the concepts of sacramentality, the sacraments and their context in liturgy in the Catholic tradition. The course explores the nature of God’s presence in the sacraments, the nature of grace, how grace is received and experienced in and beyond the sacraments of the Church.

Semester Two, 2026

This module engages participants in an exploration of what it means to be a people on mission. This will include investigating the call to evangelisation, exploring evangelisation in the context of parish and family life, as well the role of evangelisation in the wider community.

This module will also look at how we can make missionary disciples in our parishes and present practical ways that the church calls us to go forth on mission. As such, participants will develop a wholistic understanding of Pope Francis’ invitation to go out as missionary disciples and be equipped to evangelise in relevant, practical and effective ways.
